Dupe for Julep's January

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I decided I should go for a nice tomato red manicure. I dug around my polish collection and found Essie's Silken Cord and painted away. I kept thinking it looked familiar and then it hit me! This looks exactly like Julep's January.
So, I immediately had to compare.
This is what I found...

Julep, Essie, Julep

Ring finger is Essie's Silken Cord

Middle, and pinky is Julep's January

Essie-Silken Cord
Julep-January

Both polishes are about a 4 on opacity. You can see slight nail tip color through both of them with two coats of polish. Both polishes have a nice shine to them.
January was slightly more of a true tomato red and Silken Cord had a slight dustier undertone, especially in the bottle comparison.
I would go as far as saying in the bottle comparison they look almost nothing alike.
BUT, on the nail, they look identical.

If you have one of these I would say skip the other one. If you want one of these I would say go for Essie's Silken Cord as I found this shade at TJ Maxx for $3.99 opposed to Julep's January at $14.

  1. Great comparison! They are dupes for one another. Fabulous shades of red.
